447. Bistre (HUE) (P.Br.7, P.R.102 *** ◨◮)

Bistre (HUE) is an imitation of an antique colour made from resinous soot of charred beech. Consists of two pigments: Brown Iron Oxide (P.Br.7) and Natural Red Iron Oxide (P.R.102). It has the highest lightfastness, semi-transparent brown colour, and washes off paper relatively well. In mixtures with base paints it gives depth, slightly muting the main colour, taking it into a neutral dark tone. Excellent for monochrome painting, grisaille technique, combination of watercolours with graphic elements.
